Golf Kelowna and Architect Les Furber

Golf Course Architect Les Furber
With over 50+ golf course designs, Les Furber is a name well known to Canadian golfers. Les and his company, Golf Design Services, are located in Canmore, Alberta and he begin his solo design career in 1980.

Prior to GDS, Les worked his apprenticeship years under the great Robert Trent Jones, Sr. Les is now over 70 years young and is not showing any signs of slowing down having just completed design reviews of a couple of his courses on Vancouver Island and in the Kootenay Region. Les and the team at Golf Design Services also sport a unique international portfolio, including, in 1991, the first modern day course in the Czech Republic (Karlstejn Golf Resort), the first 18 hole course in Cuba (Varadero Golf Club) as well as courses in the USA, Switzerland and Germany.

Golf Kelowna and Les Furber
Les Furber certainly left his mark on golf courses in Kelowna over the years. He designed or co-designed four of the 13 Golf Kelowna partner courses. He left his stamp on Kelowna with his unique designs (images below). His design philosophy is that “a golf course should be fun to design, fun to build, and fun to play for golfers of all abilities, and that the most enjoyable golf experiences are aesthetically pleasing, and well balanced in regards to playability versus challenge – playable but not penal, challenging but not intimidating”.

We think that Les’ philosophy is well showcased in all of his Golf Kelowna course designs.
